Street Style Sequence

“Street style/fashion is fashion that is considered to have emerged not from studios, but from the grassroots”. Street fashion is generally associated with youth culture, and is most often seen in major urban centers”.

This quote resonates with me because I love that street style/fashion is a type of fashion that has been organically created by the average person. There are no rules, which allows each individual to express themselves through their clothing and to freely develop their own sense of style.

Street style has always existed, but only in more recent years has it truly found it’s social significance, and it is now just as major as all the runway shows themselves. It allows us to be artistic with how we dress and is therefore, an advertisement of self. Street wear can be as casual as jeans and a T, or as glamorous as stilettos and a dress, and therefore, can be moulded into anything, and made to fit your very own personal style.

As you can see, in my street style sequence I have, used my army-green baggy/pyjama-style pants as a focal piece, and created two different looks just by changing what I wear with them. Both looks stay true to my ‘less is more’ personal style, are between seasons appropriate, and are part of my spring series of things to wear while we are transitioning into the summer months.

The first outfit is super casual, as I paired the slouchy pants with a bat-winged T-shirt and some animal print loafers for a laid back, sport inspired look. The practical nature of the outfit makes it perfect for any casual outing.

The second outfit, is immediately smarter, as I am wearing stilettos. And although I have paired the baggy pants with a slouchy cardigan, and let the casual feel of the first outfit follow through, this outfit is a smarter street style option. It achieves an over all effortless look, which is often what us ladies want.

This sequence of outfits is a great example of how to make a casual outfit smarter if you are pressed for time. Pick your focal piece (which in this case was the pants), and dress around that, and of course throw on some gorgeous stilettos – they smarten up anything.

So, its time to get creative, and have some fun putting some street style looks together. Let me know what your favourite street wear is in the comment box below.
