Black On Black

As I have said in many of my winter-outfit posts – black is by far the colour I wear most. Majority of my winter wardrobe is black and no matter what winter outfit I have on, black usually features in some shape or form.

Let’s be honest…  …the black outfits in our wardrobes are our old-faithful, classic, versatile pieces that we go back to time and time again, that flatter us, make us feel good and that can be worn smart or casual (depending on how we accessorise).

I find it easiest to dress up all in black when attending evening functions, as black is immediately smart, edgy and chic. It makes a statement all on its own without needing much help from the accessory department. As you can see I am wearing very minimal silver jewellery, with my all-black outfit. However, on some occasions (e.g. during the day), all-black can be a little too heavy.

So, the key to softening an all-black outfit, is to either wear coloured/neutral accessories (handbag, shoes, coat, scarf), or find different textures of black to mix, match and layer for a perfectly stylish winter look. I have paired my chunky knit with leather pants and boots with steel caps, and you can see how the different materials, when worn together, create enough of a contrast to compliment each other.

So, wearing black on black doesn’t have to be flat and boring. You can have fun and be creative with how you layer your choice of different black textures and fabrics.
