Why You Need A Winter Coat That Isn’t Black

A coat is definitely a winter essential that you can throw on over any outfit. It keeps you warm and looks amazing at the same time!

If you are anything like me and black is your winter staple…

I would suggest investing in a coloured (or in my case, neutral) coat, rather than (or as well as) a black one. I tend to mainly wear black in winter, and use it as my base colour, so I like to accessorize with neutral (or occasionally coloured) accessories (shoes, scarves, jackets or coats).

All black is so smart, but can sometimes be a bit heavy, that is why I love my mink/mushroom coloured coat, because being neutral, it goes with all my winter wardrobe and it softens black colour blocking.

If you love soft, earthy, neutral colours like I do, I would suggest finding a neutral tone that you are drawn to, and that you know will go with majority of your winter clothing. Tan, mink/mushroom, grey, olive green or wine colours work well in winter, and compliment black.

However, when it comes to real colour, I am always drawn to red, and I think a red coat would also be gorgeous. The only down side, is that it wouldn’t be as versatile, or go with as much as a neutral coat would, so it would have to be worn as a statement piece.

There is something so sophisticated about a coat, it is professional but sexy at the same time, and can really make an outfit. So, whatever colour and style you end up choosing, make sure you find a coat that is really worth adding to your wardrobe of timeless pieces, and then you will love wearing it.
